When we saw Clare’s entrance to her wedding day, we just had to share it with you all…

Not many can say that they got out of their wedding car in a packed street in the middle of York due to road works near the church! It’s not every day you see a bride walking down the street in her dress and a cathedral length veil, but the good wishes from passersby were so lovely.

Tell us about your engagement…

James proposed to me at home on a Monday morning, the week of my 30th Birthday. He appeared with a cup of tea and then got down on one knee. We celebrated our engagement at my birthday party later that week surrounded by our family and friends.

When and where did you get married?

We got married on 13th September 2019 at Holy Trinity Church in York, followed by a reception at Hotel Du Vin.

Did you have a specific theme or colour scheme?

We opted for a botanical theme for our reception. My bouquet featured a selection of seasonal blooms chosen by our fabulous florist.

Tell us about finding your dress…

The idea of shopping for a wedding dress filled me with dread! There were so many styles to choose from and I simply didn’t know where to start. I actually found my dress on my first shopping trip which I didn’t expect, but the moment I put it on I knew it was different from all the other. I visited Wed2Be with my Maid of Honour and chose a dress by Anna Sarrano from their Platinum range.

How did you choose your shoes and accessories?

I found the Rainbow Club range after a recommendation from a friend. I wanted a classic design with a vintage edge to coordinate with my dress. The Harlow peep-toe shoe was absolutely perfect! Hands down the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn.

What was the best part of the day?

It’s true what they say, your wedding day passes by in a blur. The moment that stands out most for me was at the end of the night when we had left our guests and it was just the two of us, slumped on the sofas in our hotel suite with a cup of tea. We talked over the day and wondered what tomorrow would bring.

Do you have any advice for other brides to be?

Planning a wedding inevitably leads to some rather stressful moments in the lead up to the big day. It’s important to remember it’s about you and your husband-to-be, no matter what anyone else thinks, the day should be a reflection of both of you.

Words from Clare:

Before the words of ‘social distancing’ or ‘COVID restrictions’ ever existed, we had decided that our wedding day would be a small affair and that being surrounded by our immediate family and closest friends were our main priority – other than the getting married part! An intimate wedding can be just as special and beautiful as a big one!
