Tell us about your engagement
Jamie surprised me at our home in London with a personalised treasure hunt. He had adapted our favorite song ‘Life’s a Happy Song’ from The Muppets and recorded him singing it in cards dotted around the house. It led to him on one knee in our bedroom. He’ll never let me forget that I didn’t cry – I was too busy munching on sweets he’d put on the hunt.
When and where did you get married?
We got married on 26th September 2020 at Marleybrook House in Kent. We had a small ceremony outside in the walled garden followed by a vintage funfair in the grounds.
Did you have a specific theme or colour scheme?
I wanted lots of colour to represent all the fun of the fair and our loud personalities so pink, orange, yellow and burnt red. We added a rustic feel with string and brown paper in all of our decorations. I had a friend who illustrated fairground rides for all our tables and seating plan.
Tell us about finding your dress…
I found my dress at the National Wedding Show. I fell in love with Lora Nova Bridal Couture’s romantic dresses and a crochet lace plunge bodice in particular. My sister helped me customise the dress so it was completely unique and made me feel like a princess on the day.
How did you choose your shoes and accessories?
I always knew I wanted blue shoes as my “something blue” so I had my Rainbow Club Morgan’s dyed the exact shade I wanted and then I added pinky/beige floral ruffle clips to the tops to complement my dress. I got a lot of positive comments from guests!
What was the best part of the day?
I know I should say the ceremony, but I was so nervous walking up the aisle. For me, the best bit was going on our first ride together at the funfair. It’s a Ferris wheel that spins you upside down. It was so much fun and that’s exactly what we wanted our wedding to be.
Do you have any advice for other brides to be?
What everyone told me – remember to take it all in as it goes by so quickly and try to enjoy it instead of worrying about the details. I wish I could do it all again. Even with the rollercoaster of a year that 2020 has been, it was worth all the stress.
Words from Zara…
If there are brides out there unsure about getting married with everything going on in the world at the moment, I’d still say go for it. We didn’t want to wait and we wouldn’t change it for the world. We just embraced the pandemic and went for it. It was still a magical day. Love always wins!
