In January, we asked you to tell us all about your engagement stories and we’ve been amazed by the response! With so many beautiful and remarkable experiences that you’ve shared with us, it was very difficult to pick just one winner for both categories… but we’ve got there! Below you’ll find our two Engagement Story winners – take a read, we’re sure you’ll love them as much as we do.
Most Romantic: Demi Ewing
It was at the Trevi Fountain in Rome in front of hundreds of people. He handed me a coin and told me to close my eyes and not open until he told me to, then told me to throw the coin and make a wish and when I opened my eyes he was on one knee with the ring.
Most Spectacular: Carla Owen
We headed to New York early December, and I was wishful thinking that I’d come back engaged, but my partner had been throwing me off for months saying he wouldn’t even consider it until next year. So, I was a bit gutted, but it was fine. We’d booked to go up the top of the Rockafella centre that evening, and what unfolded throughout the day now was so obvious! First of all, our apartment was about 1,000 steps up, with no lift… We got down to the bottom and he said he’d forgotten his gloves (he is the most organised person I know…). So firstly, he ran up all those steps, if that’s not love I don’t know what is. We then went for a lovely dinner and headed over to the Rockafella.
After posing outside the famous Christmas tree and watching the Saks light display we headed to collect our tickets. Of course, on our way up we got stopped at security (little to my knowledge he had to whisper to the guard that he had an engagement ring in his pocket and they let him through). He suggested we go to the top deck first and work our way down. We arrived at the top deck, with beautiful views of the New York skyline covered in lights. He asked me what side of the deck I preferred, and I chose a spot overlooking the city.
He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me, kissing me gently on the cheek. I complimented the view and said how beautiful it was to which he replied, “But not as beautiful as you”- of course at this point I was already on top of the world. He then continued to say, “Do you know what would make it even more beautiful…?” And I waited for his reply (thinking he was piecing together something sweet to say… oh how I was wrong!). I felt a tap on my back and turned around, but rather than being greeted with his face, it was a blank space, I looked down and he was down on one knee and asked me those 4 words I longed to hear “Will you marry me?”. I instantly burst into tears, shouted yes and gave him the tightest hug ever!!
As we broke from our embrace, I saw a flash and thought it was nice someone had captured this moment (again, I was wrong..) he looked at me and said “And that’s our photographer..”. Cue another fit of tears (and many horrendous looking photos!). We took some photos at the top and by the Christmas tree and headed off for a well needed celebratory drink. I then found out about the ring. I always wanted a vintage ring, something unusual and I’d been spamming him with photos for months. Little did I know that the one I found in a little boutique back in June, he had called the very next day and bought it. He then sneakily picked it up a month later and stashed it at his best friend’s house (I have a tendency to snoop…) collecting it only weeks before New York and collecting then from his parents the day before we flew. For me, my proposal was the most incredible moment of my life. He nailed it in every single aspect, and I can’t wait to marry him!!
Congratulations to all the newly engaged brides-to-be! If you have an incredible engagement story, we’d love to hear it… and if you’re looking for a dream pair of shoes for your big day, take a look at our 2018 Collection here.
