Nia Wears ‘Astrid’

Nia, wearing our ‘Astrid T-Bar detailed court shoes, married her partner Brett at the Cliff Hotel in the small coastal town of Gwbert in west Wales. The views overlooking the Irish sea are something to marvel, and the imagery by Mumford Photography captures these precious moments perfectly. For the perfect coastal wedding, look no further!

How did you and your partner meet?

Brett and I met 11 years ago on a blind date. Our mutual friend thought that we’d be a good match so he gave Brett my number.  I received a text from Brett on the 24th of October 2008 asking me on a date to a seaside restaurant in New Quay (West Wales). Thankfully, I took him up on the offer and we’ve been together ever since!

Tell us all about your proposal – where, when and how?

On a Saturday, Brett asked if I fancied taking our bulldog Twtsi for a walk.  We drove to St Govan’s Head (Pembrokeshire, West Wales) and got out of the car to start our walk. He had taken his rucksack with him so that we could have some sandwiches whilst we were there. There is a little chapel built into the side of a limestone cliff at St Govan’s Head so we decided to walk down to see it.

Whilst we were in the chapel looking at the views across the sea, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately said YES! To celebrate, we sat on a rock and had a glass of prosecco (he had bought it with him in his rucksack) and a squished custard slice which was at the bottom of his bag!

When and where did you get married?

We got married on Saturday 13th of April 2019 at the Cliff Hotel & Spa, Gwbert (West Wales). It’s a beautiful venue which is situated at the edge of a cliff so the views are amazing.  We got married in one of their rooms which overlooks the sea. After the ceremony, we just stepped outside to have our photos taken at the edge of the cliff and in one of their beautiful coves.

Did you have a specific theme or colour scheme?

Yes, we had a blush pink, burgundy and ivory colour theme. My bridesmaid wore a burgundy dress so I thought blush pink and ivory would compliment the colour beautifully.

I wanted an elegant look so we opted for white candelabras for the centrepieces with flowers in the centre of each candelabra. We covered the chairs with white chair covers and white organza hoods tied with a blush pink rose. The tables were dressed with a blush pink table runner , white table numbers & white place name cards.

I didn’t want fresh flowers so my mum and I did all of the flowers (bouquets, centrepieces & top table flowers ) using sola wood flowers. We hand dyed all of the flowers individually ( pink, burgundy & ivory), stemmed each flower with a glue gun and then put them together to make our bouquets & centrepieces!

How did you feel when you said yes to the dress?

For me, I knew that I didn’t want a strapless or fishtail dress and that I needed to feel comfortable.

I tried on 12 dresses in total and finally opted for the Ellis ,off the shoulder, A Line ,lace dress which was a blush/champagne colour. I didn’t think that I would choose a dress that wasn’t white but when I tried it  on, I absolutely fell in love with it.  I chose not to wear a veil with the dress and I wanted my hair to look quite natural and not too styled so I opted for a half up hair do with a simple crystal clip.

How did you choose your shoes?

I wanted elegant, ivory shoes with a bit of detail.  Comfort was also one of the main factors when choosing my shoes as I knew that I’d be wearing the shoes all day.

I saw the Astrid T-bar satin court shoes and I absolutely fell in love with them.  The stylish crossover design across the front and The t-bar with the stunning diamante and pearl embellishment gives these shoes the ‘wow factor`.They are very elegant and they complimented my dress beautifully.

They are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever owned!  I wore them all day and danced in them for hours, no problem at all! The blue crystal in the sole of shoe is an amazing touch –  one less thing (something blue) that I had to sort!

Where did you buy your Rainbow Club shoes from?

Direct from the Rainbow club website. They were delivered very quickly and I can’t wait to get them dyed – once I decide on a colour!

What was your most favourite and memorable part of the day?

I enjoyed every single minute of it! Walking down the aisle and seeing Brett gave me an amazing feeling that I will never forget!

For Brett and I, having our closest family and friends share our special day with us is something that both of us will never forget. Everyone was so happy and had a smile on their face. I look back at our photos and see how happy people were at our wedding  and it always makes me smile!

Do you have any advice for brides to be?

Choose what’s right for you! I was worried about what people would think as my dress wasn’t white and I wasn’t wearing a veil but I’m so glad that I didn’t let this influence my decision as `I was me` on  my wedding day and I felt amazing.

Get a good photographer! If you need to save money then look at your favours, table decorations etc.  Photographs are the only thing you have left after the wedding so it’s important that you have a good photographer. We had Sarah Mumford Photography and she was amazing.

Relax and enjoy! The day goes so quickly so try and relax so that you can enjoy every moment.
