With breath-taking mountain scenery, a piper for entertainment, and flowers made up of mainly thistles and purple heather – there is only one place our latest #InOurShoes blog is taking us – Scotland!
Amanda, our gorgeous bride, was kind enough to share her big day with us. She had her heart set on matching her shoes to her bridesmaids purple dresses, she chose our Nina shoes dyed to match, and we just love them!
So sit down, relax, enjoy the wonderful scenery, captured perfectly by Gary Davidson, and re live Amanda’s day…
Amanda the Bride
How they met:
Martin and I were together for 10 years before we finally said ‘I do’. I think a lot of our family and friends thought it would never happen, but we were so wrapped up in our own little world doing things we enjoyed and creating a stable future for ourselves that it was never top of our priority list. However, it was most definitely worth the wait!
How he popped the question:
We were on a city break in New York in May 2015. The sun was shining down on us all day and we were exhausted from shopping so decided to take a break and sit on the grass in Central Park. Although it was busy, we had a nice secluded spot away from the crowd sheltered under a tree. That’s where he proposed with the most beautiful and classic ring I could ever have imagined. We later celebrated with champagne in the famous Plaza Hotel. It was just perfect!
We got married on Friday 2 September 2016 at the Lochside House Hotel in Cumnock, Ayrshire. We opted for a venue with stunning views of the countryside but with a modern feel.
We wanted a very Scottish feel to our wedding. Having spent a lot of our time together climbing Scottish mountains, we wanted to incorporate our love of the hills so we named our tables after Munros we had climbed together. Our beautiful flowers by Silk Blooms were made up of mainly thistles and purple heather, and in true Scottish style we had an incredible piper, Donald Currie entertaining our guests. The very next day we travelled up North in a classic 1970s VM Campervan where we later bagged some more Munros!
Favourite part of the day:
Wow, this is a difficult question! I absolutely loved the whole day, from the preparations with my mum and best friends to my dad walking me down the aisle and finally seeing Martin to say ‘I do’. Having all the important people in our lives share our special day meant so much to us, so seeing them relaxed and enjoy themselves was also a highlight.
I knew instantly that I wanted shoes that matched my bridesmaids beautiful purple dresses. I came across a small selection of Rainbow Club shoes in John Lewis – then with a quick search online I came across your Nina lace shoes which matched my dress perfectly. I sent a swatch of the material from the bridesmaid dresses to Rainbow Club to have them dyed, and I was amazed by how beautiful they looked, they were a perfect match, not forgetting to mention how comfortable they were too!
Advice for brides to be:
Try not to get too caught up in trying to make your day perfect, it will be perfect because ultimately you are marrying the man of your dreams. Take some time immediately after the ceremony, just the two of you, with a glass of bubbly to soak it all in, your day will go on a flash and it’s nice to have five minutes alone. Encourage your guests to take as many photos as possible, they often capture moments that you miss. And most importantly, advice I give to all brides to be… choose a dress and shoes that you can dance in all night!
Congratulations Amanda and Martin! We have loved featuring your beautiful wedding and we wish you all the best for the future x
