In Our Shoes
Kirsty Wears “Winterberry”
For our first #InOurVeils of 2018, we delve into the alluring wedding of Kirsty and Carl. The two wed at the exquisite Waterton Park Hotel near Wakefield, with their theme a mishmash of colours that remind us of blue skies, sizzling temperatures and gorgeous wedding occasions!
How did they pop the big question?
I was upstairs packing our final bits for our trip to visit my Grandad and Grandma in Spain, oblivious that Carl was planning his proposal downstairs. His plan was to whisk me off to somewhere nice in Spain to do the deed, but he panicked that our bags would get checked at the airport, exposing the ring, forcing him to have to ask me in the middle of the airport – which he knew I’d hate!
So, I walked downstairs to a red and black box on our side cabinet. I asked what it was; it was bigger than your average ring box so at this point I was still completely unaware. Carl said, “It’s a present, for you”. I got all giddy and went to open it. Inside the box there was a smaller box, this time it was ring-sized, but I still had no idea! In hindsight I should have guessed from the subtle questions Carl had asked to get my ring size! But I didn’t. Then, as I opened the smaller box, Carl got down on one knee and asked me to make him the happiest man alive by becoming his wife. He was so nervous! To which, I said YES! And the rest is history.
When and where did you get married?
Waterton Park Hotel on 27th May 2018.
Did you have a specific theme or colour scheme?
Our colour theme was champagne and blush. However, the men ended up in blue, grey and ivory so we ended up with a bit of a mishmash of colours, but it worked really well!
How did you feel when you said yes to the dress?
I felt so excited and relieved, but also nervous what other people would think. I tried the dress on for the first time a couple of days prior to saying “yes” but wanted to try it on a second time to be sure as it was a fishtail gown, and the first gown of that style I had tried on.
How did you choose your veil?
I bought my veil to compliment a sample dress I initially bought too early and fell out of love with. Luckily, the veil was so versatile it also complimented my dress which was completely different to the first gown I’d bought it to wear with!
Where did you buy your Rainbow Club shoes from?
My veil was from Flutterby Bridal Boutique in Rossington and my Rainbow Club shoes were from House of Fraser.
What was the most favourite and memorable part of the day?
I loved every single part of the day, from a relaxed morning getting ready with my girls, to seeing my dad cry happy tears when he first saw me and during his speech, dancing with my sister who balled her eyes out all day, celebrating with all of our friends and family until 4am the next morning, and – of course – marrying my best friend!
Do you have any advice for brides to be?
When it comes to the guest list, invite who YOU want to be there. It’s so easy to get caught up with thoughts like “if we invite this person, we have to invite this person”. No! Invite who you want there and don’t think about other people. It’s likely that someone will be upset that they’re not invited, they might even fall out with you over it. But, at the end of the day, it’s your wedding and if anyone gets upset or falls out with you, that says more about them than it does you. Be selfish.
