How to Plan Your Wedding

GET STARTED – ASAP

So, they put a ring on it – CONGRATULATIONS!

We know all too well how hard it is when planning a wedding and the hundreds of things that there are to think about. Our wedding checklist sets out to make your life easier, with no stone left unturned for complete ease of mind.

Where to Start?

Wedding Budget

One of the most important aspects of the day – how much will it all cost? It is vital to create a spreadsheet with all of the costs that you can foresee spending money on, from the transport to the catering and everything in-between.

Take out wedding insurance

What could be worse than pouring your heart and soul into creating the perfect wedding, all for the stress and burden of losing images, videos, attire, presents, rings and deposits weighing on your mind? With wedding insurance, everything is covered so you don’t have to worry.

Set a limit on the number of guests

When trying to decide on a venue, you will need to have some sort of idea on how many guests you can invite. The cost of travel and accommodation will add up as well as food and drink. Ensure that you and you’re partner have a list of people that you can’t not invite, and work from there.

Dedicated bank accounts

Whilst you are trying to make plans and arrange what’s what, create a separate banking account for any expenses. You can put your budgeted amount in at the start so that you can keep track of any and all purchases without losing track.

Date, Theme and Venue

Once you’ve decided on a budget and set a guest limit, you can start looking at when you would like to get married. This will guide you as to what type of venue and theme you will want for the day, as well as a whole host of other important things such as your dress.

The When of Your Wedding

Wedding season is between May and September, which means you can look to pay up to three times more for the same venue during the “off-season”. If your budget is tight, then look for less popular months and midweek dates where less people are getting hitched. A Saturday in June is going to be a lot more expensive than a Wednesday in November.

Decide on a Theme

Start to look at colour themes that you can tie in to your wedding. Once you’ve got the date, think about the type of colours that would fit in with the seasons. Spring for example is perfect for natural pastel tones whilst winter you can go blue and navy. But don’t be afraid to break the trend.

Matching Your Venue

Your venue therefore will want to factor in the time of year, you may not want an indoor occasion when it’s bang on summer, but would be ideal for winter. If you are having guests travel for the wedding then look for nearby accommodation that is within your budget. Once you have your dream venue, get it booked in.

Photographer, Stylist and Dress

Once you have your venue booked, look for a photographer / videographer and everything else that you could need including your stylist and suppliers. The sooner you have them booked in, the less you’ll have to worry about leading up to the big day. You should also start thinking about the type of dress you want to wear!

Look For Your Photographer

Another one of the most expensive parts of the day, but choosing the right photographer can be the best decision you make. Attend wedding fairs where photographers / videographers will set up stalls to highlight their qualities, these events are normally free and you get great insight into what’s on offer.

Think about Suppliers

The same can be said about suppliers. Attend wedding fairs as often as possible and start to get a feel of what sort of accessories, caterers, florists and music is available. Download “Bridebook”, an app that offers a huge list of suppliers that you can arrange with an inbuilt to-do and checklist.

The Dress

This will probably be the biggest decision you will make, and it’s definitely something you’ve been thinking about already. Book an appointment with a boutique who will specialise in helping you pick the right dress for you. Try to listen to other people, but don’t let them dictate what you should or shouldn’t wear, it’s completely down to you.

The Final Few Things

Although you’ve only just begun, there are a lot of big decisions that have already been made, so start to relax. Create a scrapbook with notes, pictures and everything you can think of that you may want to include on the day, this will help in the long run and act as a lovely keepsake for when everything has been said and done.

Arrange who you will want in your bridal party, these are not required roles for your wedding, but if you have friends and family who want to get involved then here’s their chance.

Decide on your honeymoon. More and more couples are starting to avoid going on holiday directly after their wedding, but if you want to get away as newlyweds together, then start to plan where you want to go. Get passports changed into your new name(s) but be careful as these won’t be valid until you’re married.
